The Lagos State Government, on Thursday, disowned the viral video, where some uniformed impostors were promoting the sale of branded wastebaskets purportedly on behalf of the State.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello, noted that all the characters in the viral video are fraudsters who do not represent the State Government or any of its agencies.
Bello affirmed that there is no unit or agency under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources that goes by the name “Lagos State Vehicle Waste Basket (LAVWAB) Enforcement/Compliance” as portrayed in the branded vehicle which the fraudsters operated from.
He pointed out that the dubious intent of the criminals in the video could be deduced from the fact that they operated from inside a van within an automobile workshop and were very dodgy about the kind of enforcement exercise they were supposedly carrying out.
While noting that the State Government had always encouraged all buses, trucks and articulated vehicles to provide wastebaskets in their vehicles to discourage littering of the roads and streets, Bello maintained that the present administration has never recommended any branded wastebasket to Lagosians.
The Commissioner said the development has been communicated to security agents to spread their dragnets towards apprehending the criminals and their cohorts, wherever they operated from, and bring them to book.
Bello, therefore, enjoined members of the public to report any incident of anyone claiming to represent the State Government and coercing them to purchase any particular brand of wastebaskets for placement in their vehicles.
The Commissioner also implored owners and operators of buses, trucks and articulated vehicles in the State to continue to use wastebaskets of their choice in their vehicles, as part of efforts to discourage littering and promoting a culture of proper waste disposal.
The video showed the Peoples Democratic Party supporters lamenting on involvment of Amotekun attack on their faithful supporters in on going campaign towards governoship campaign coming up next month in ondo state.

The ex-minister asked Tinubu to reveal his source of income to Nigerians. A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom Ikimi, said on Wednesday the “cash-laden bullion vans” of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, would not secure victory for the party in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
Ikimi, who was the national leader of the National Republican Convention (NRC) in the aborted Third Republic, stated this at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) mega rally in Benin City.
He was reacting to the ex-Lagos State governor’s criticism of Obaseki in a viral video.
In the video, Tinubu said the Edo governor was not a democrat and asked the people of the state to reject him on Saturday.
In his reaction to the APC chieftain’s claim, Ikimi said Tinubu did not have a lot of money when he was elected as Lagos State governor in 1999.
The ex-minister asked Tinubu to reveal his source of income to Nigerians.
He said: “Bola Tinubu, tell me how much money you had in 1998/1999. Today, they say you are a billionaire. You carry money in trucks all over the place to disfigure democracy and you are preaching democracy.
“You carry money in bullion vans. Where are the bullion vans for Edo State? Have they arrived? Money cannot buy Edo State. Edo no be Lagos (sic).”
He also recalled how Tinubu denied the former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the chance to seek re-election in 2018.
Ikimi added: “Let me tell you what happened in 2019, Ambode was to contest. Everybody begged Bola Tinubu; President Buhari begged Bola Tinubu but he pushed the man away. Was that democracy?”
Ekiti people have cried out on insecurity in the state over the invasion of herdsmen and bandit attack in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council for Ondo governorship election on Wednesday vehemently condemned the attack on the party’s candidate, Eyitayo Jegede by hooded men.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the Chairman, Publicity Sub-Committee of the council, who made the declaration at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, alleged that the attackers were in the convoy of “jittery” Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
He said in PDP members were severely wounded and their campaign vehicles vandalized.
The campaign spokesman said: “This attack by APC assailants with Governor Akeredolu reportedly in the convoy, confirms that the failed Ondo State governor is mortally afraid of Eyitayo Jegede, as a result of his soaring popularity and now seeks every means to scuttle the decision of the people elect him (Jegede) on October 10.
“It is indeed unfortunate that Governor Akeredolu will opt to tread this path, as already confirmed by the self-confessed APC militant and former APC chairman in Ondo State, Isaac Kekemeke, who openly boasted that the governor was behind the violent attacks against our candidate and campaign in the state.
“Evidently, Governor Akeredolu and his party are intimidated by Eyitayo Jegede’s soaring rating as well as the warm reception he has been receiving from leaders and groups across the state and had to attack him in Oba Akoko, where he was received by the highly revered Oloba of Oba, Oba Nathaniel Adegoroye.
“We know that Governor Akeredolu’s uneasiness over our candidate had heightened following the overwhelming crowd of Ondo people who graced our campaign flag-off last Saturday to establish their unbending solidarity for Eyitayo Jegede.
“Of course, our candidate has become the rallying point of the people in their quest to rescue their state from the misrule of Governor Akeredolu.
“Our campaign appreciates the courage displayed by the people of Ondo State in resisting the APC assailants and defending our candidate. Indeed, but for the intervention of the good people of Ondo state, who immediately came out to defend our candidate, the situation would have been worse.
“We also appreciate well-meaning APC members who had called our candidate and our campaign to condemn the attack and show solidarity to our candidate.
“We however seriously condemn the action of the Police and other security operatives attached Governor Akeredolu’s convoy for taking no steps to stop the attackers, who also threatened other innocent citizens.
“Our campaign further restates the call by our party and other well-meaning Nigerians to Governor Akeredolu to stop being a sour loser as he would not be the first state governor in our country that would lose in an election due to poor performance.
“Governor Akeredolu should come to terms with the fact that his time is up. He should accept the decision of the people of Ondo State to replace him with Eyitayo Jegede as no amount of violence, threats, mudslinging and propaganda can change that resolve.
“On our own part, our candidate, who is the people’s candidate, will remain undeterred in our focus to provide good governance for the people of Ondo State.
“In any case, let it also be known that while our party and candidate will continue to canvass for peace, the PDP and the people of Ondo State will not fold our hands in the face of any such attack but will not hesitate to use every means necessary and available in a democracy to confront and vanquish these enemies of the people.”
Volunteering – National development is not only about working to get a salary but also focusing on the parts of the nation which have been neglected or left behind. If the youth volunteers to uplift the backward areas and help in their growth and development, the country will progress much faster.
The government in power should Stop neglecting the remote areas. Focusing only on them-self and how much money they make might seem healthy and bring happiness for a bit but the question always arises as to what they have contributed to the nation and our immediate environment.
We need something that will actually make a difference. We need to help the poor, educated the illiterate and help the needy. There are so many rural areas that don’t get medicines and basic amenities, those areas are neglected or are out of reach of the government. The youth should take steps to elevate the standard of living of the people of these areas because this is what is holding Nigeria
